Well. I must say that I'm somewhere between pissed off and absolutely heartbroken from the results of the Olympic mens figure skating.

[tl;dr]I don't understand how someone with no difficult technical moves but a prettier ice portion can beat someone who actually did a few of the hardest maneuver in the sport and had a strong round over all. I'm so mad, I can't type.

So I drew instead.

These are Lysacek's snakes... They don't like Plushenko. D;

drawn in paint with a mouse. It was just that urgent and couldn't wait until I returned to my tablet.

addition: blaargh I'm so used to forums where I can individually quote everyone and start long rants/discussions... I figure that'd be a little rude here, so here's the long version of my opinions of the happenings that night~

I don't understand the argument that it's not about jumps/quads/etc, but the quality/difficulty/execution of the routine as a whole. Plushenko DID have some tricky footwork and spins, but they were about as uninspiring as Lysacek's jumps. Both had to have an entirely complete set to use for the final, just while Lysacek was stronger in the footwork, he didn't even attempt the harder jumps. Plushenko did the hardest jumps possible, but his footwork was simple; but ONLY compared to Lysacek's. Both performances were Olympic gold level, you don't get that far without having mastered everything. Regardless of look, jumps/landings are harder than footwork at the Olympic level they were performing at. Main difference between the two was that Lysacek played it safe and threw in more fancy dance moves while Plushenko risked failure with his difficult jumps... And while it probably was that wonky landing that lost him some points, it's the fact that he even tried those moves, let alone completed, that people are arguing deserved a higher score.
Lysacek rightfully deserved the gold, his set was amazing, but it was simple and usually judges wouldn't/shouldn't give more points than one with a higher move difficulty. Plushenko's was front loaded and easier than Lysacek's for the ice part, but he was strong in everything he did try and skated well/easily. It was just down to human decision, the judges chose the prettier one over the harder one. There is no right or wrong, that's just what was chosen.
Personally I see that the techicality of figure skating is slowly being edged out by the showmanship side, and believe that is bad for the future of the sport.

I was a bit dissapointed that Evgeni didn't win but his skating IS simple. Evgeni is exciting to watch and I'm glad he made another comeback this year. I watch him to see the high flying jumps. But if you watch him it goes a bit like this: prety jump! fifty crosscuts. Prety jump. seventy crosscuts.... whereas evan is like jump. intricate footwork! jump. MOHAWKS ROCKERS CHAWKTAWS 3TURNS COUNTERS.... jump....
It depends on what you like I guess,

Although Plushy's jumps emit large amounts of hypothetical glitter, I was hoping (even though I knew it wasn't gonna happen) that somehow Johnny would win.
